March Challenge at Flying Unicorn!

Here's my Inspiration layout for my
 "What Not To Wear"
Challenge over at Flying Unicorn:

This is the groovy polyester purple pantsuit we lovingly refer
to as the "Partridge Family Outfit",
hence the title. Who remembers that catchy tune?
To distract you from the assault of ruffles I altered the adorable diecut [think-partridge] from FabScraps
with Holtz copper embossing powder, only heating the edges to give him a shadowed efffect.

The papers are from the Kaisercraft Sweet Nothing line and are heavily misted with Tattered Angels in Bronze and Cotton candy.
The punch is Martha Stewart and everything except the large recollections flowers can be found in the  UNI store.

Up for grabs is this awesome little RAK:

So, I showed you mine....
Come play at Flying Unicorn!

Flying Unicorn Blog Hop !!

Welcome to the Flying Unicorn "Make it Work! " Blog Hop.
We’re so happy that you’ve joined us!
If you came to my blog from Tammy’s blog,
then you are on the right track!
The Hop starts at the Flying Unicorn blog, so if you didn’t start there, hop on over to here
and get started so that you don’t miss anything!
I’ll see you back here in a bit!
Below are links to all the stops, in order, on the blog hop.
The next stop is back to the  Flying Unicorn Forum
I want to share with you my layout featuring these gorgeous ladies modeling Versace.
I call this Layout: "Mirror, Mirror [Who's the fairest?]".
I wanted it to feel like we have a glance inside the opulent world of the Versace lifestyle.
I framed it up thanks to the folks at Piknik.
Hope you like it!
I used the rich  and glorious Fabscraps papers from the Uni store with lots of misting with Tattered Angels and Perfect Pearls.
The Kaisercraft wooden flourishes-also from the store-were treated to Ranger distress powder then inked with Antique Linen Distress ink
The flowers were treated to Perfect Pearl mist in Opal and Diamond Stickles.

There is a reason that the Creative Team members are all featuring fashion on their blogs during this hop. This is just a preview of the fun we are going to have in March during our Haute Couture at the Unicorn Ritz challenges!
Wait until you see the OTP project, it is so fabulous!!
Hmmmm, what is haute couture, anyway?
“The term "haute couture" is French.
Haute means "high" or "elegant." Couture literally means "sewing," but has come to indicate the business of designing, creating, and selling custom-made, high fashion women's clothes.

I can’t wait for the March kit reveal.
You are going to love it because it is the best ever!!
 Wanna see a little??
Look at these sneakies from the creative hands of Alda:

The store opens March 3 at 12:01 am-set your alarm to snag your kit :)

Back to the blog hop!
There will be a grand prize awarded to one lucky person who visits, becomes a follower and leaves a message at all the Creative Team member blogs.
You know you want this:
AND each CT member will also be randomly selecting someone to win a RAK so you will have 9 chances to win!!
Thanks for visiting me, be sure to leave a comment and become a follower so I can enter you in my random drawing for my RAK right here:

No Place that Far-Swirlydoos

This was posted on Swirlydoos when posted as LO of the week-I was so touched..
"This gorgeous Layout just blew us away. More so for the meaning behind the page. Tacey's neice is fighting Cystic Fibrosis, and although she is a strong little girl, the effects the disease has on her fragile little body can be devastating. She is an angel here on earth that has many people who love her very much. Aunt Tracey is one of them. The distressing adds to the beautiful charm of this page with its soft beautiful colors. Everything on this page echoes LOVE... The angel wings fashioned from the photo corner piece is a perfect touch. It's always in the little details that emotions show through what the artist is trying to portray. We love everything about this page Tracey, and we pray that one day a miracle cure will come in Viviens lifetime... Bless little Viv"

Many of you know that my niece, Vivi, the subject of many of my LOs, has Cystic Fibrosis. Every year the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations hold the Great Strides fundraiser-a national fundaiser with walks sponsored by local groups-there is probably one near you! This is Vivi's home page-if you have a minute-please read on about how you could possible help raise funds toward research to find a cure in her lifetime-the race is on!

Welcome to the Vivers' Givers Great Strides home page!

Personal Image Welcome to VIVERS' GIVERS team webpage! 2012 is our second annual walk and we know it will be another great event! We ask for your support and participation to reach our fundraising goal and fulfill our mission: Help improve the quality of life for those living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and those yet to be born with this genetic condition.

**A special thank you to MIT Lincoln Laboratory Community Outreach and Health & Wellness for publicizing this event! If you are from the Laboratory and have questions, please contact Kerin Gregory (Group 81) x2028.**

MORE ABOUT OUR CF STORY AND 2012 VIVERS UPDATES~ Thank you for taking time to learn more about our motivation to support progress for therapies and a cure for CF. Our little girl, Vivien (or Vivers as we sometimes like to call her), was diagnosed with CF in November 2010 at just two weeks old. Vivien is now a year and some change . . . and let us tell you, she is full of energy and spirit! She recently learned to walk and talk and doesn't stop doing either for very long. Your support helps her directly and she thanks you for that!! Since birth, she has had only two common colds which went away quickly. Otherwise, she's been extremely healthy. Each day, she takes vitamins and pancreatic digestive enzymes to help her absorb all the good stuff in her food. This helps her track well on the growth charts and will provide her with energy which she may need to battle infection. We've also started practicing chest physical therapy to help clear any mucus from her airways. We make a game of it and thump her on the back, front and side of her ribcage with cupped hands. She is doing great and we appreciate your help in keeping her healthy!! The CF Center at Children's Hospital in Boston is helping us to provide the best care possible at this crucial early stage of life. While we cannot predict exactly what the future may hold, we can help improve her quality of life by raising funds for research.

Starting today, we can make strides to facilitate important research so that in Vivien's lifetime, she will come to know the healing power of modern medicine. Already, she will grow up knowing that she has love and support from an incredible network of loved ones. Please help us ensure that she and other kids with CF will live long and healthy lives free of the symptoms of this disease. Help us make a true impact for her and the other 30,000 CFers in the U.S. by supporting Vivers' Givers!

~EVEN MORE DETAILS ON THE DISEASE~ To give you a quick overview of CF, normally, the healthy CF gene makes a protein - known as CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis conductance Transmembrane Regulator) - that is found in cells that line various organs, like the lungs and the pancreas. When the protein is defective, the salt balance in the body is disturbed. Because there is too little salt and water on the outside of the cells, the thin layer of mucus that helps keep the lungs free of germs becomes very thick. After Vivien's birth, we learned through blood tests that she had inherited two defective genes (one very common gene mutation and one rare mutation). We cannot predict the severity of the disease at this time but she may someday experience various effects. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:

* clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and

* obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
Since 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure. Research and care supported by the CFF is making a huge difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF. We need your help now more than ever to ensure that a cure is found sooner rather than later.
Our plan is to dive in to charity events in Vivien's name...the more we do now, the more she will benefit later!

Getting Ready for the Flying Unicorn Blog Hop!

Join us for a very special Make it Work! blog hop February 25th and 26th!
The blog hop starts at the Flying Unicorn blog and ends in the Flying Unicorn forums.
Each of our designers will be revealing a very fashionable project on their blog that they’ve designed just for the blog hop. You know how we like to give fun “stuff” away, so of course, there will be RAKs awarded randomly to one lucky visitor of each blog.
If you visit each CT member’s blog, leave a comment, and become a follower, you will be entered in the grand prize drawing for a fabulous prize package assembled by The Grand Unicorn herself!
Our favorite part of the blog hop is that we’re going to preview the March kit with some sneak peeks on our creative teams’ blogs instead of in the forum.
We’re also going to tell you something about the wonderful projects we have planned for March.
Trust me; you are not going to want to miss this.
We are all over the moon excited about our March plans that we’ve been working on for a couple months now.
Don’t miss this blog hop because we’re going to be working it!

Swirlydoos and Once Upon a Sketch

Talk about multi-tasking! This is my entry for the Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos. As I was putting it together, I saw the sketch from  Once Upon a Sketch [which is sponsored by Swirlydoos this month] and with a minor change it qualifies for both!
See the sketch and the details here:http://onceuponasketchblog.blogspot.com/

The pic is my son Austin about 4 years ago. We were at my Mom and Dad's house and the sun was setting on the water-Austin made us run down and take pictures of it-like Mother, like son :)

I have journaling tucked in the side-I attached Prima Printery paper to Tattered Angels pocketwatch diecut. I added Ranger glossy to the clocks on the printery paper for some definition. The butterflies are courtesy of Lisa Gregory-who always posts matching butterflies for each month's kit.
This little bird is a Jo-Ann Fabric's dollar aisle rescue-he was sitting in some red glitter disaster before I dressed him up in some Timmy :)
Recognize the print? These were punched from the Prima packaging, then distressed inked and crackled. The Dusty Attic key was treated to a coat of distress embossing powder in tea dye, then rubbed with black ink. Thanks for stopping by!

Believe in Miracles-winner!

I am so excited-just found out my entry above into the Swirlydoos' January Challenge to Scrap your "Moment" of 2011 won ! All the entries were gorgeous-take a peek: Swirlydoo Forum

There is quite a Oprah-worthy story behind this LO-
I call it "Believe in Miracles" because it features my adopted daughter and her biological sister that God placed on the same soccer team this year. What are the odds?

I adopted my daughter from Dept of Social Services.
We knew she had a full biological sister, the age and the first name, just didn't know where she was.
Her father took her to soccer practice-first one of new season, new team
and she called to tell me
"My sister is on my team, Mommy! I just know it's her!"
When I saw this little girl, Lexi, there was no doubt in my mind either.
They became friends instantly [because they were so much alike ]
She was also adopted and lived the next town over.
Her mom and I traded stories and confirmed the truth.
We prayed for God to guide everyone and shortly we got the phone call when my daughter could shout, "She knows! She knows!"
After 3 big brothers, she finally has her beloved big sister-
they also have the same birthday-just 1 year apart!

I took this pic the morning before they played the first game knowing they were actual sisters.
Along with the obvious glow of happiness about them,
I was amazed at how they inadvertently made the shape of a heart...love these girlies
I had to convert the pic to B &W because the team's colors were traffic cone orange and black and that just wasn't gonna work for me.
Thanks for peeking !

I Believe

This is my entry for the February Challenge at Flying Unicorn to "Scrap Your Style". Click Here to play

From the site:
This is a two part challenge: The two parts should be posted together--photo and description.
1. Make something that expresses your unique, personal crafting style.
2. Write a short description about your crafting style.

I decided my style is a base layer of Shabby/Vintage with trends of lightness.
I like to have a sense of movement and fluidity.
Color choices drive my designs.
Most all of my layouts stem from an idea or a story or a song that just won't let me go until I capture it and glue it down.
This is my niece, Vivien, she has Cystic Fibrosis and at 14 months still has no symptoms. I am on the Christian journey and am constantly amazed at the blessings all around us when we put faith in action.
When I scrapped this pic the song lyrics ,"There are more than angels watching over me" came to me and reminded me of how my Grandparents who never met Vivi are keeping watch from above and keeping her safe.
I love flowers and butterflies and they are on all my projects.I try to add "found" objects-family trinkets, etc to make LOs more meaningful.
I love textures and layers yet I don't like my LOs to look "heavy".
I can't do without my Zutter, Holtz distress inks, Perfect pearl mist, diamond Stickles and lots and lots of Prima.
My favorite subjects are my niece and my children and I tend to give away most of what I create.
"You like it? It's yours."
Thanks for stopping by!
