August Scraps of Darkness Projects-It's beginning to look a lot like...yep, Christmas!

Hello! Today I want to share my latest projects with the Scraps of Darkness' August kit, "Kathy's Nature Walk". My first is a scrap page pulling the green and red elements of the kit. Many of you know how I love all things Christmas so I just couldn't resist!

Everything except for the red flower is from the kit. How sweet is Blue Fern deer?
Here are some close-ups:

I am in the process of repainting and refurbishing my bedroom furniture and used the Creativity Add-on to rescue my outdated brass knobs and a thrift store pail.

First, the easiest way to paint knobs is to thread them into cardboard-like the handy packages our kits arrive in :) I first covered them with the patina and let them dry. I then brushed on the chalk paint. once that dried I used the distressing tools to bring up the jade and hints of the brass. I stamped with a light grey then covered them with the Ranger Glaze. Once dry, I returned them to my chalk painted dresser and love the shabby patina of them!
I treated this thrift store brass bucket the same way-I love the layers of colors:

First Project with Scraps of Darkness' August Kit!

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing my first project using the Scraps of Darkness' August kit, "Kathy's Nature Walk." Fall is my favorite time of year! Leaves on the trees are already starting to turn toward rich reds and golds and so is my page!

The pic is of my daughter and niece, taken this past Thanksgiving. It's been so wonderful to see the 2 of them become closer as the years go by and how Naomi has taken Vivien under her wing in teaching her all things girly.

I was planning to alter the cute Prima resin owls and the Prima natural flowers but i just liked the fresh feel against the rich burgandy BoBunny paper and gold misting. I was inspired by the August Inspiration Board (created this month by yours truly) in the combination of the tree branches against the white bricks. Feeling inspired? Check out the details on how you can enter the challenge for a chance at a $20 gift certificate to the Scraps of darkness/Scraps of Elegance Store.

That's all I have for you today-thank you so much for stopping by!

Scraps of Darkness' August Kit Reveal !!

Happy Saturday!
It's time to reveal the new August Scraps of Darkness kit: Kathy's Nature Walk

Our August kit is named after one of our wonderful designers, Kathy Mosher, and I think it's the perfect kit for Kathy, I know she will have beautiful projects to share with us this month!

We've combined two fabulous collections in this kit, BoBunny's Heritage, and Kaisercraft's new Botanica collections. Then we added some sweet elements from Prima (check out those Evita butterflies - they're to die for!), Blue Fern Studios, Ranger, Vintaj, and Offray ribbon.

We've also got some must have add on this month, all carefully chosen to work perfectly with the main kit.

Our Patterned Paper add on is an extra set of the double sided papers in the Main Kit. Perfect if you want to be able to use both sides of those gorgeous papers:

If you love paper (and who doesn't?!), our Coordinating Paper add on is for you! It includes 2 each of 5 different double sided papers that are NOT in the main kit, but that will coordinate with the main kit:

Our Creativity Add On is a Technique/Project/Mixed Media add on, and this month, it's all about metal:

And then there's the Elements Add On - who doesn't need more embellishments?!

Our Floral Add On is just that -- Flowers!

And last, but not least, we have the Cardstock Add On - you get 2 sheets each of 3 different colors of My Colors heavyweight (80lb) card stock.

If you aren't already a subscriber then head over to the store to snag one of these before they sell out! Have a great weekend!

"Hope as an Anchor" : Layout with Scraps of Darkness July Kit

I am really enjoying creating with the July Scraps of Darkness Kit, "Tracey's Artful Adventures".
Here is my second project with the kit:

The picture is from my son, Hayden's graduation from USCG boot camp at Cape May, New Jersey. I am so proud of him for choosing to follow his heart for adventure and service to our country. I was inspired by this month's Inspiration Board:

For information how to enter this inspirational challenge click here

I love the worn and weathered wood which is captured in the BoBunny papers and perfect for my semi-nautical page.

The scripture :"We have as this hope an anchor for our souls" Hebrews 6:19 was one that gave me strength while praying for him and his troop as they worked through the hardest part of the journey. It was very difficult being separated with out any type of communication so our online Facebook community of parents became a close, supportive group. I used the mini alphas from the kit and backed the Bo Bunny diecut with cardboard before gluing to the rope corner. I love the fun little copper prills in the kit-I had never worked with them before but they add such a fun dimension!

The anchor itself was an unfinished wood shape at Jo-Anns that I first embossed with a patina, then used the kit's copper powders to accent it. I used Blue Fern pieces from last month;s kit and embossed them with distress powder from Tim Holtz-the holes were filled in with a bronze Viva pen. I doubt my knot is sea worthy but I did try to follow a tutorial on nautical knots :)

As usual, I do like my layers. I truly love the scripted tissue paper and keep hoarding little bits to stuff in every project! There are still a few of the main kits available but the Add-ons have been sold out. Don't want to miss out on a kit? Stop by and see our newly designed store for the latest and loveliest of scrapping goodies.

An Altered Clock with "Tracey's Artful Adventure!" from Scraps of Darkness

Hello there! So glad you could stop by! Today I want to share my altered alarm clock using the goodies from my Namesake kit,"Tracey's Artful Adventure", the July Scraps of Darkness kit.
I've a had a silver retro style alarm clock that I found at a thrift store, sitting dismantled on my scrap desk and awaiting inspiration. When I opened this kit full of my favorite colors and lots of wings and clocks and lace and immediately started creating!

I started by painting all the silver parts with off white chalk paint. Using the script tissue paper from the kit, I mod-podged it over the
clock, then did some sanding and distress inking.

The large chipboard is by Blue Fern Studios and from the kit-I used gessos and glitters from the add-ons for dimensions. I added beaded greenery and leftover elements from previous kits.

Lots of BoBunny die cuts and embellishments in this kit to perfectly coordinate your projects. Here I added pearls from the creativity kit to embellish the "time flies" chipboard element. The lovely lace from the kit was wrapped and glued around the clock to add softness and cohesion.I borrowed the feathers from the Scraps of Elegance kit and touched the flowers and other elements with gesso and light glitter.
Have something hanging around that you never got around to altering-well, get this kit and get gluing! Have a wonderful day!

More projects from the June Scraps of Darkness kit!

Today I want to share 2 contrasting pages created with the June Scraps of Darkness Kit.
My first is a Clean and Simple, inspired by the June Mood Board here.

And some close-ups:

I added in punched layers of vellum and the pretty aqua blue papers to add depth while keeping the lines clean,

My next page has more of a messy feel to it:

And some close-ups:

I added items from past SOD kits as well as items from the add-ons to create a more whimsical page fitting my niece's simple joy from dancing and twirling at a family wedding. Creating with June's Scraps of Darkness Kit: "Sindi's Summer Day"

Hello! Today I want to share with you my first page using the Scraps of Darkness June Kit, titled "Sindi's Summer Day". Melinda loves to coordinate kits inspired by our Design Team Members. This months kit is named after the effervescent and uber talented Sindi Jeffers.

The kit features BoBunny's gorgeous "Sweet Life" and Webster's Pages' "Life's Garden" papers. Together they were the perfect combination for scrapping this picture of Naomi. I love to play with the editing features of PicMonkey and I love the soft glamour of this one. Everything on this page came from the June SOD Kit, the June SOE kit, the April Kit or the SOD store. The store also sells Blue Fern Studio chippies, which I altered with different combinations of gelatos for my page.

I always get the available Flower-Add on, where I found these stunning pink beauties !(Petaloo - Textured Elements Burlap Blossoms - Fuschia)
The sweet key is from the SOE kit.

After painting the large Blue Fern piece with the Shimmerz - Creameez Paint in Berry Hot, I stamped all over it using Prima - Finnabair Clear Stamps in  Dot Grunge.
I adorned the circle accents on the Blue Fern Piece with Prima brads from the April SOE kit.

Ready to see the rest of the kit?

the Color Add-on (Sold Out):

As always, you can find the kit and add ons in our store, or you can subscribe to any or all of them and receive them each month!
