More projects from the June Scraps of Darkness kit!

Today I want to share 2 contrasting pages created with the June Scraps of Darkness Kit.
My first is a Clean and Simple, inspired by the June Mood Board here.

And some close-ups:

I added in punched layers of vellum and the pretty aqua blue papers to add depth while keeping the lines clean,

My next page has more of a messy feel to it:

And some close-ups:

I added items from past SOD kits as well as items from the add-ons to create a more whimsical page fitting my niece's simple joy from dancing and twirling at a family wedding. Check out our available kits and add-ons here-if we're sold out (as we often are) you can also learn about becoming a subscriber here.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you get to create today!

Creating with June's Scraps of Darkness Kit: "Sindi's Summer Day"

Hello! Today I want to share with you my first page using the Scraps of Darkness June Kit, titled "Sindi's Summer Day". Melinda loves to coordinate kits inspired by our Design Team Members. This months kit is named after the effervescent and uber talented Sindi Jeffers.

The kit features BoBunny's gorgeous "Sweet Life" and Webster's Pages' "Life's Garden" papers. Together they were the perfect combination for scrapping this picture of Naomi. I love to play with the editing features of PicMonkey and I love the soft glamour of this one. Everything on this page came from the June SOD Kit, the June SOE kit, the April Kit or the SOD store. The store also sells Blue Fern Studio chippies, which I altered with different combinations of gelatos for my page.

I always get the available Flower-Add on, where I found these stunning pink beauties !(Petaloo - Textured Elements Burlap Blossoms - Fuschia)
The sweet key is from the SOE kit.

After painting the large Blue Fern piece with the Shimmerz - Creameez Paint in Berry Hot, I stamped all over it using Prima - Finnabair Clear Stamps in  Dot Grunge.
I adorned the circle accents on the Blue Fern Piece with Prima brads from the April SOE kit.

Ready to see the rest of the kit?

the Color Add-on (Sold Out):

As always, you can find the kit and add ons in our store, or you can subscribe to any or all of them and receive them each month!

Thank you so much for stopping by-I hope you get to create today!

Military cards with the April Scraps of Darkness kit

So, I had to change things up a bit.
My oldest son is currently in boot camp for USCG.
He cannot receive mail that is thick, bulky or draws attention.
I knew I could create something using the April Scraps of Darkness kit (Laura's Wish).

For the first one, I collaged the die cuts with the fun rub ons to a 5 x 7 size card,
The postal themes in the kit were perfect!

I made the second one elongated to fit a regular letter sized envelope and fussy cut the clocks from the pp.

 Yes-I made flat cards!
I love how quickly I could pull these together and the little date card where I circled his graduation date :)
Again, these SOD kits are so versatile-no matter what your style of scrapping.

I am counting down the days to his graduation on June 12!
Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty and her Daddy with Scraps of Darkness April kit

May is Cystic Fibrosis awareness month!
Many you of you may know my sweet niece,Vivien, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a newborn and you have seen her grow up to be a fun loving 4 year old. Today was the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's fundraiser, Great Strides, where our families come together, donate funds to CF research and walk. Our team, Viver's Givers was one of the top fundraisers-since our first walk 5 years ago, we have raised over $50,000 toward a cure. So Vivi had the honor of cutting the ribbon to start our walk this morning!

Using the official colors of the CFF (hence the Tye-dye colors) , I created this layout of Vivi and my brother, one of the most awesome Dads around who will wear a beast costume at home dancing or at Disney.

I am really loving the colors and rich tones in the Scraps of Darkness April Kit, named "Laura's Wish" for our awesome Media Coordinator, Laura Gilhuly.

The add-on kit has this cool circle stencil, which I colored with gelato after using texture paste. The butterflies were punched out of the patina patterned paper. I loved the large die cut circle and chose to position it on the side so I could bring in the smaller photos.

So many fun pieces to fussy cut and layer!

How sweet are little frames? Perfect for my wallet size pics of Belle dancing with her "Beast" aka Daddy. Like most 4 year olds she dreamed of meeting the princesses and her dream came true last fall as she got star treatment as a special guest at Disney World.

Thanks for stopping by! For more information about CF and Vivi's personal struggles click on the highlighted links above. Be sure to check out the Scraps of Darkness store and come join us on Facebook for fun, challenges and inspiration!

Second Project with "Laura's Kit" by Scraps of Darkness!

I know the April kit was aimed at a more masculine palette but I am just loving the rich patinas and rusts and the beautiful "tainted love teal" Magical powder by Lindy's Stamp Gang. I think I now need every color they make. Time for a new cabinet anyway!

So here is my second page, where I get to show another picture from Naomi's fall photo shoot:

I started with my treatment to the Blue Fern Tangier Panel-which tied in with the chain link fence in Naomi's picture. First, I embossed it with a Lindy's Stamp Gang "Cleopatra's Copper" embossing powder. I then worked in the Magical from the kit in Tainted Love Teal in various places to get the patina look. Finally I rubbed it over with Black Soot distress ink and with my Viva pearl pen, added bronze beads to the fence.

I am pretty happy with the way it turned out and it looks cool with the Kaiserscraft patina paper.
The "wooden planks" paper was burned around the edges (yes, water was near by) to give it a more authentic look and to add something unexpected.

The deep turquoise flowers are from Prima and they allow you to mix and match as you wish. I centered mine with Prima beads. The fall leaves and twine were in my stash and they add some more texture and color.

The kit comes with some fun Prima butterflies and 2 packets of ephemera which I used throughout the page. Clear and chunky embossing powder was used on the circular title, then cracked.

I hope you enjoyed my page and thanks for stopping by!

My first layout with Scraps of Darkness' April kit!

I have to say that this kit is amazing! Not only is it named for my dear scrapping buddy, Laura Gilhuly, but the rich colors and cool textures of the papers make this kit versatile for masculine or feminine projects.
For my first project, I wanted to go with a mostly neutral yet girlish theme:

The pic is of my daughter, Naomi and my niece, Vivien, at a family wedding. They don't get to see each other too often and they have so much fun together!

Scraps of Darkness and Scraps of Elegance holds a mood board challenge every month in our Facebook Community, and we hope you will stop by and participate! This month's is created by Fena-look how lovely:

I was inspired by the soft rose paired with the neutrals and the lovely frame. For my frame, I painted it with Holtz distress stains in linen and edged it with a soft rose.Using a large rubber stamp, I covered the frame with warm brown ink.

Anyone who knows my style, knows that I love to layer! I also shop at thrift stores to find vintage laces, ribbons, etc. For this paged, I combined the elements. Because there is a lot of textures and patterns, I like to keep the colors monochromatic or else it looks too busy for me.

Using 4 sheets of patterned papers and the coordinated cardstock, I planned my layers and glued them only in the middle of each layer to give me space to play and decide which lace/ribbon I wanted where. I am more of a scrunch and hot glue type as I didn't want it to look too "matchy-matchy".

Once my background was in place I padded the frame with a cardboard backing and hot glued it in the center. All the flowers, butterflies and paper elements are from the kit, The wooden leaves are from a previous SOE kit.

I love clock faces so I tucked them in my clusters-they also went perfect with my sentiment:

So that's my page!
I hoped you liked it and might be inspired to try an extra layered layout of your own!

Don't forget about our April Mood challenge as well.
Entries need to be posted in the challenge album on Facebook, but I thought I'd share the rules, so you can see how easy it is!

1. The challenge ends April 30th at midnight.
2. Create a layout, canvas, art journal page, or altered item, taking inspiration from this month's Inspiration Board: You can choose inspiration from just one of the images, or several of them. This inspiration can be the quote, the colors, the overall feel of the board, something in one of the pictures on the board - your imagination is the only restriction you have on this!
3. Upload your project into this album, and tell us in the description what you used from the board as your inspiration.
4. For a double entry - post your project on your blog along with the photo of the board and a link to this challenge, and then put a link to your blog post in the description of your photo when you upload here.
5. That's it!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your week!

Scraps of Darkness' March kit projects

I've had a fabulous time with the March Scraps of Darkness kit! Here are my projects:

First up is a layout inspired by the March Inspiration board. One of the pictures featured a cluster of hearts that ended up becoming this trio of stars:

The kit included some fun copper steampunk shapes and I added some lovely Renea's butterflies from the Scraps of Elegance kit.

Next up is a layout with a different color scheme:

The kit included mica, which I'd never worked with before. I peeled apart the layers until they were pliable, then colored them with a mix of warm toned alcohol inks. I ran them through my cuttlebug with a fall leave die and used them to back my flowers.

I like how they flowed with a favorite fall pic of Naomi. There are lots of journaling slips and such in the kit so I cut one down for my title.

My 3rd project is an altered cell phone box:

I always keep the boxes, not sure why, but upon cleaning out my closet found quite a few of them. Since they are so sturdy I re purposed one into a fun little gift box.

I love the mechanical pieces in the kit and combined some to add a quasi-steampunk flavor. The laces on the edge are positioned above and below the box seams so it can still be opened and closed.

Lots of fun tags included that I distressed and layered. The top is blank until I decide who the recipient will be.

For my last project, I wanted to use the 5 x 7 canvas in an unusual way.

I colored with turquoise glimmer mist and with the black texture paste from last month's kit and the stencil from the SOE kit,I created the small canvas.

I do love to layer but wanted to keep the darker tones and chose not to distress the edges, just lightly crease them.

Both the SOD and SOE kits came with these elegant charms that I "hung" from my vintage ribbon.

Stay tuned to see the upcoming April kits!
Wishing you a wonderful Easter!
