SOUS Sketch Reveal Friday

Hi there! This Friday brings a classic sketch design created by our very own Leah.
Here's my interpretation of the sketch:

Yup, it's Christmas in August !
I've been waiting for the right sketch for this years pics of our annual Christmas card photo shoot. Every year I've dressed them up and tortured them with themes..last year I told them to wear whatever they wanted and let them pose however they wanted. Love this crew!

I finally used my Father Christmas and BoBunny Snowfall that has been waiting patiently to be scrapped. The swirly tree is from Dusty Attic-I gessoed it and painted it with metallic watercolors from the Flying Unicorn store. The large cluster is a mix of Petaloo, recollections,Prima and Michael's dollar bin :)
So now it's your turn and can't wait to see what you create!

Riddersholm and Carpetbag Flower Tutorial

Hi there! I wanted to share another layout made with the beautiful Riddersholm Huntington's Garden collection available at the Flying Unicorn Store.
 This one features my Pastor's daughter,
 Abby in some serious chocolate heaven (no pun intended).
This is the face her mom saw in the rearview mirror and just had to snap a pic.

I did very little inking because I just loved the papers the way they were. I kept the Pink Paislee letters bare too-a nice contrast to that cute messy face-lol! I managed to get 6 layers of paper with 3 sheets of paper by strategically cutting the inner perimeter of each, then restacking them. I cut many little butterflies out of a sheet and staggered them among the images on the primary sheet.

Now about the flowers..I love shopping at thrift store
and picked up 2 books of carpet samples at the Goodwill.
Wasn't sure what I would use them for but they were only $2.00 each so I got them,
I made cardstock samples of flower patterns off my Cricut Flowershoppe cartridge and traced and cut 3 different patterns out of 3 different carpet samples.

Then I mixed and matched and stacked until I liked the combinations.
 The brads I used to secure them are very old Martha Stewart travel themed canvas brads that I misted with bronze Tattered Angels mist. I like the look of them and think they give appropriate weight and texture to my many layered layout.
 Thanks for peeking and have a blessed day !

Scrap365 "Guest Designer" !

I have been so excited but didn't want to say anything until I saw it for myself!
 My Layout,"Breathe" was chosen and is published in the September Issue of Scrap365 !
I took a chance and submitted and I am so glad I did.
If you have never read this magazine-you are missing out-it is chock full of ideas and sketches and tutorials and cool new techniques!
I have been hooked since February and re-use every issue for Mojo. They also have a website with monthly sketch challenges for scrap-goodies.
Thank you for letting me share my news!

Flying Unicorn and Once Upon a Sketch !

Flying Unicorn is the sponsor for the Once upon a Sketch Challenge Blog this month!
Click on the above link to see the sketch and the rules and the DT's take on the sketch.
 The theme is Seasons and here is my creation:

This is my daughter,Naomi,in her "Summer Girl" mode.
Everything here was made mostly with the June KOM and other goodies from the

Naomi was born June 21-the first day of Summer,
but her birthdate has greater significance than that.
 See, while I was growing impatient,
 wanting my completed nursery to be occupied
 by the child I was waiting to adopt from Social Services...God had a plan.
 I was working as a school nurse at the time and on my first day out of school, I finally recieved the long-awaited call
 that there was a newborn baby girl who needed
 "Temporary" placement for 72 hours.
 Had she been born earlier, I wouldn't have been able to take her..
.so she came for 72 hours but has been here for 12 years!
 To make her birthdate even more special,
 we located her biological sister last year
 and they found they have the same birthday, just a year apart!

Romans 8:28

King James Version (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Highlighting Riddersholm at Flying Unicorn

This month Flying Unicorn is highlighting the beautiful Riddersholm line of papers.
 These can be hard to find but you can get yours at the the FUL store here.
 I have been playing with the Huntington garden collection...

I did not do any inking on this page because I wanted to keep it fresh and natural. The papers are already so beautifully designed, I didn't think they needed anything else..

The diecut from Fabscraps is the only thing altered. I painted it with white gesso then using these pearlescant watercolors I shaded them to match the paper:

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day!

SOUS Reveal Day !

Isn't it great ? Designed by our very own Leah, it's so versatile and I always love seeing how the DT interpret each sketch in their own style.
Here's mine :

The pic is me enjoying the beauty of a marketplace in Barcelona. The alpha is on I bought while in Spain but never used. These gorgeous papers are all by Riddorsholm and hard to find but available at the Flying Unicorn Store. I used metallic watercolors to water distress the edges and perfect pearl in Opal on the doily.
Do you like the flowers? I made them by cutting circles out of tulle and lace, heating the edges with a heat dryer, misting with Tattered Angels and adding the small Petaloo to the center. Then I randomly added some Diamond Stickles for some subtle sparkle.
So, now it's your turn!
Can't wait to see what you create!

Stuck on U Sketch reveal !

Happy Friday!
It's another reveal day at SOUS !
First go check out the newest sketch by our own talented Leah Schaeffer..
Here's my take on the sketch:

This is a self portrait taken by one
 of the children my son worked with during his mission trip to Haiti.
 I encorporated words reportedly found on Mother Theresa's wall.
 I treated the Dusty Attic frame and
Kaisercraft watch fob with Rub n Buff in Antique Gold and Patina,
 then randomly added pearl dots.
The cross was a thrift store find that has been in my hoard for a while and it just fit perfectly with my theme and these gorgeous BoBunny Marketplace papers.

The entire poem is as follows:

Mother Teresa's Anyway Poem

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis,
it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

So, now it's your turn and can't wait to see what you create!
